Spring Refresh while Quarantining

Well, it certainly has been a while. Life got really busy with the Holidays, getting engaged, working two jobs and trying to fit all the rest of the things in. And then life basically told me and the rest of the world it was going to force us to not just slow down, but stop altogether. How crazy is all of this virus stuff? I won’t lie, I’m not hating having no obligations and just catching up on all of those things I have been putting off for months. I know however, that this time is extremely trying for most. It’s a scary, unknown day to day lifestyle right now. Do we have enough food? Do we have enough money? Job security? What if we get sick? Can we survive in the house with our loved ones? (LOL)!

It’s hard not to panic, to give in to the anxiety the rest of the world through social media is displaying…aka buying bulks of toilet paper and I’m not downplaying the need to stay home. But maybe this is the mental health break the world needed. We don’t take care of ourselves enough, spend the time needed with our loved ones, slow down… if you’re healthy you are blessed and this hunkering down is just a way of life reminding us to stop and enjoy the little things. I have seen more people than I ever have outside taking walks, kids in the neighborhood I didn’t even know lived here! This should be the way life is all the time- not just because we are “forced” to. I get it though, our day to day lives don’t always allow for this with the demands of everything else- until those demands are gone.

In all honesty, I’m not hopping on here to tell you how to live this quarantine. I wanted to jump on and talk about how you can make the best of being at home (because seriously, stay home!). Let’s talk about all of those projects you have been putting off because there simply wasn’t time. This doesn’t mean you have to spend a ton of money either! It’s simple to refresh a room with what you have already! Here are some quick, mostly FREE ways to make your house feel like it got a face lift!

  • Rearrange the furniture. Obviously, if you can’t do this alone- kindly ask for help- furniture is heavy! You can also buy these great furniture movers on Amazon. This makes moving the couch or dresser super easy! Now, not every room has the ability to be rearranged in multiple ways- what is the focal point of the room? Living room= television, bedroom=headboard…know what I mean? Start there and once you have the focal point, rearrange things around that. Move a side table to the other side of the room, create a conversation area with chairs. Home Made Lovely blogger makes this seem like a breeze! Read her tips on rearranging furniture here!
  • Organize. This seems simple. While you may have just moved furniture, you realized that there were drawers full of stuff you didn’t even know were in there. Or it’s the dreaded junk drawer (everyone has one). You can start by ordering these plastic tray organizers- again from Amazon. They will be easy to clean, wash, and arrange in the drawer so that everything fits very nicely. Here are some other tips and tricks on making that junk drawer organized. Maybe you like your junk drawer impossible to open- you can obviously organize any drawer or cabinet in the house with a few of these plastic trays and dividers! I promise you will feel better once this is done!
  • Switch out your accessories! You just rearranged the living room and it feels so good- but you want to change out the decor and not spend a lot of money. Take your curtains from the bedroom and switch them to the living room. Swap out the rugs, pillows, decor items. What works in one room will most certainly work in another. But wait- what if one room is blue and the other is yellow? Don’t panic! A gallon of paint is relatively inexpensive and Home Depot is still open (use your best judgement on whether going out is the right thing for YOU). Also- did you know you can order pillow covers for your throw pillows? I do it all the time and it is by far the EASIEST way to switch up that look! A new bedspread or curtains will also change the way an entire room feels. Guess where has bedding that is stylish and affordable – WALMART!! You can probably guess- I get these from Amazon too! Etsy also has beautiful pillow covers and you would be shopping small and helping out someone’s business! Even though the stores are closed- online is still online and I can definitely help you pair together things to update your home!

Hopefully this blog has inspired you to do some things you haven’t gotten around to in a while. I am happy to help or provide guidance if you’re ready to tackle a project! Stay safe and be well!

xoxo,

Lexi
