This is completely unrelated to Interior Design but another love I have. My boyfriend and I adopted an 8 week old puppy in October of last year. I don’t even know what life was like before him (I think people normally say this about their kids). He is the best little pup, and I absolutely love being his fur mama. I couldn’t decide on a name (we are in trouble when we actually have children) and so he is named after the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo. Having Romo has only increased my love for all K9’s alike. I always loved dogs and would often dog sit for family and friends but having your own puppy brings on a whole new level of love. Don’t get me wrong, puppies are a TON of work, but it has been totally worth it. I remember my first day home with Romo I was so anxious because I had no idea what to do with an 8 week old puppy (again I’m in trouble when I have a baby) but he is 1 years old now and still full of just as much energy and love. We totally lucked out with him!
The purpose of this post isn’t to gush over my sweet baby but to tell you about a couple of organizations that are so near and dear to my heart. First of all, I am an “adopt don’t shop” advocate. There are SO many dogs (and cats) at shelters just waiting for their furever homes. Before we found Romo- after extensively searching Petfinder like an absolute crazy person- we actually visited a few shelters. As heartbreaking as it was, we didn’t find “the one” at any of them. That doesn’t mean I still don’t think about those pups and if they are happy where they are now.
Since I live in Worcester, one organization I follow very closely is the Worcester Animal Rescue League. Not only are they super friendly at the shelter, they post on Social Media ALL THE TIME and are super involved in the community. They also rescue lost pets in and around the city- which I have stumbled upon myself (luckily I was able to reunite her with her family). They are in need of so many items at their shelter and are in need of donations- paper towels, puppy toys (new or gently used), blankets etc. You can view their website here. When I donate goods to the shelter, I just order from Amazon and have them delivered right to them. It’s really easy! While you’re on the site- maybe you will find a new pet for your home.
K9 Mission is an organization that the owner of Emily’s Interiors , Joe launched. It is a non-profit organization for Veterans in need of Service Dogs. These ADORABLE FLUFFY puppies are professionally trained to become the very best service dogs for the owners they are placed with. Since this is a non profit it operates solely on donations- which is where they need your help. Veterans have sacrificed so much and what better way to give back to those in need than with a service dog. If you would like to learn more about this organization, you can visit their website here. If you would like to make a donation please click here
The other organization that I love and where we almost adopted through is Last Hope K9 Rescue who partners with Rescue Road in Arkansas. A lovely woman I work with in AR fosters pups from Rescue Road- those dogs are transported up to MA to be adopted through Last Hope K9. They constantly have dogs that are being brought to MA from the South that need a family. You have to go through the application process in order to adopt but I promise you it is worth it. You can view all of their dogs ready for adoption here.
I’m sorry (kind of) that you are now gushing over all these sweet babies that need loving homes. I hope if you are looking for a pet, you find one and that he or she gives you everything that was missing from your life before. There is no love like rescued love.
