Wallpaper: Back & better than ever

This isn’t the same wall paper that was used in homes in the 80’s and 90’s. We aren’t talking about a floral border instead of a chair rail and we aren’t talking about the kind you have to spray a chemical on to get it off. This is wall paper that peels and sticks and is the easiest DIY project, anyone can install it! You can buy it basically anywhere, stick it anywhere, and take it down if you hate it without destroying the walls themselves. It can look like ship lap, flowers, a mural. It can be bold, or subtle, or textured. You wanted a brick back splash but hello, who has time for that installation- guess what? There’s a wallpaper for that!

There was a time when wallpaper was not even a thought- it was like putting rug in a bathroom, you just didn’t do it. And the mention of wallpaper made people cringe (again, like carpet in a bathroom) But- thanks to the development in the design world, it is so easy to install everyone wants it again!

What we see most often today with wallpaper is an accent wall. But, it can be used in an entire room and not be overkill. This isn’t the wallpaper that we are matching bedding and pillows to anymore either (see yucky image to the right). This is wallpaper we are using as the inspiration point for a room, the starting place for how the rest of the room takes life. Let me show you some ideas so you can be the judge. Here is also an article on how to hang wallpaper! Yes, for some versions you still need water and a razor blade, but its not a sloppy, gluey mess anymore! Stay with me!

One of my favorite designers, Dina Holland of Dina Holland Interiors is the one who started my love for wallpaper. She had posted on Instagram a video of her (her as in herself, not a carpenter) wallpapering her ceiling- yes you read that right- the ceiling. She isn’t afraid to use bold patterns and that is what I love! She legit works magic in her designs and incorporates wallpaper A LOT!! Visit her site and you will see what I mean.

Anyways, the point of the blog is that wallpaper is back and it’s better than ever. I cannot wait to force it on my friends in their bathrooms and nurseries! I just need you to trust me on this one, if we use wallpaper together- you won’t be disappointed!

xoxo, Lexi

  1. This is great news! I’ve always loved wallpaper but it was something you would have to love for years because of the work involved and it could get pricey. I am so happy to see the brick one as a backsplash as that what I want for the kitchen but of course my decorator will let me know if it will work for mine😉.

  2. Hi Lexi! How easy is grasscloth (in a bathroom ) to take care of? I love the look but wonder if it’s not a great choice for a very active bathroom???
